What it does
This mobility robot comes with standing assistance, foot massage, AI fall detection and emergency alarms, connecting families through mobile APP to supply integrated mobility, wellness, safety monitoring and warm companionship for home-dwelling elderly users.
Your inspiration
China’s accelerating aging brings widespread troubles to home seniors: hard standing, fall risks and insufficient care. Existing mobility aids are single-functional or coldly clinical, making elders unwilling to use them. The market lacks user-friendly age-friendly home products without medical embarrassment.
We got the idea by observing seniors’ daily routines. Separate devices are required for standing, walking, wellness and safety, troublesome for elders to handle. We thus integrated all core scenarios into one device. Its warm furniture-like design erases cold medical labels, letting seniors use it gladly and preserve dignity.
How it works
This mobility robot acts as a thoughtful live-in caregiver, quietly placed beside the bed or in the living room for instant use. Simple voice control lets seniors operate it casually, while family members monitor remotely via a mobile APP.
Its slowly liftable front handrail supports standing. When the elderly grip it, an electric push rod lifts steadily like gentle human support, reducing leg strain. Built-in pressure sensors halt movement instantly if hands slip.
Four smart wheels adjust resistance based on pushing force to prevent rushing downhill and lock firmly with buckles for stable rest.
Equipped with cameras and sensors, it identifies falls. It sends voice prompts to seniors and alerts families with photos if no response is detected. The built-in chip distinguishes normal walking from falling postures.
Through the APP, children check daily activity, receive instant fall notifications with locations, and chat with the elderly via voice messages.
Design process
Development of the senior mobility companion robot took about nine weeks. Starting with community visits and user research, we interviewed 12 solitary seniors and their families to pinpoint three core pain points: difficulty standing, high fall risks and cold clinical appearance of existing devices.
We drafted over 40 sketches to filter solutions and adopted a forward-pushing framework. Cardboard prototypes verified ergonomic parameters like handrail height and base width; a flip-hidden structure replaced the original design to solve leg obstruction.
During functional prototyping, we integrated electric push rods, pressure sensors and foot massage modules, replacing touch screens with large physical buttons per seniors’ feedback. After 3D-printed aesthetic prototypes and usability tests with six elders, six rounds of revisions optimized noise control, emergency operation and maintenance.
The final home-style all-in-one device supports standing aid, walking assistance, wellness care and safety monitoring, with three major prototype iterations and six key design tweaks throughout development.
How it is different
This senior mobility robot stands out with five distinctive breakthroughs. Functionally, it breaks the single-purpose limitation of traditional walkers by integrating standing support, walking aid, emotional companionship and safety monitoring to meet elders’ all-day home needs in one unit. Visually, it abandons stark medical styling and adopts soft curved wood-textured finishes to erase the label of medical gear, enabling dignified, voluntary use. For interaction, it discards complex touchscreens and uses large physical buttons plus voice control for effortless operation. Its local AI fall detection triggers automatic emergency alerts to guarantee safety without intruding on privacy. Positioned as a home companion rather than merely a mobility tool, it addresses both physical mobility and the emotional needs of solitary seniors, filling the market gap for warm, high-end age-friendly home devices.
Future plans
The robot’s development is divided into three stages. Short-term: 3–6 month trials in community senior centers, upgrades including voice control and nightlights, and cost reduction via modular mass production.
Medium-term: A main unit with replaceable modules for medication reminders and health checks; institutional & portable versions to connect with smart home ecosystems.
Long-term: Evolve into a home elderly care hub linking smart health devices, community services, telemedicine and emergency rescue. It will shift the eldercare industry from clinical to life-focused, helping seniors age at home with dignity amid China’s aging society.
